Sketch

The Venice Lagoon (Italy): Canaletto’s "Grand Tour" paintings were the "postcards" of the 18th century, allowing travelers to take home a precise, sun-drenched view of the city.

Todays Challenge: "The Postcard Detail." Draw a small 2x3 inch rectangle. Inside it, sketch one tiny architectural detail—a window, a balcony, or a chimney—with as much precision as possible.

Travel Trivia: Canaletto often used a "camera obscura" to help him achieve the incredible perspective and detail in his Venetian scenes.
